SCHOOL LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER (SLMC)
This is a digital space we keep and organize a collection of resources such as books, magazines, documents, databases, videos and more. Our Aim is to create a vibrant and dynamic Virtual Library where all our stakeholders (students, educators, and parents) can inquire, discover, read, view, and collaborate, to become critical and creative lifelong learners.
The San Fernando East Secondary School library media center (SLMC) serves to instill a love of reading, inspire life-long learning and foster independent library use. We aim to provide quality resources and instruction to students. All students are encouraged to visit, check out materials and to practice information literacy skills and digital citizenship.
The library is an inviting space where students may acquire knowledge and gain insight; a welcoming haven where children may seek respite from a demanding day; and a stimulating place where they may open books and open their minds for a better tomorrow.
Throughout the years the library has seen improvements, both aesthetically and with its’ resources. Every year we have been able to add to the collection (print and non-print), increase the number of equipment (computers, printers) and devices (routers) available for use and improve all of the services offered.
The library serves the entire student population, all staff members (both teaching and non-teaching) and past students. Holdings include books, magazines, DVDs, etc. –roughly 7,000 items—which has mostly been funded by the Ministry of Education. The entire library’s collection can be found on the Alexandria computer software program. There are two (2) student-use computer stations and three (3) computers serving library operations.
The library is staffed with a Librarian, a Library Technician II and a Library Technician I. The staff here is very efficient and is willing to go above and beyond to cater to the needs of all our users. We always welcome suggestions or donations and can be reached at [email protected].
